In Clinton, Iowa, a new farmhouse typology and site strategy will aid in the incremental establishment of the former Iowa prairie and a pioneering family; this will become the foundation of a new rural narrative based on the resources of rural America: ecology, tradition, and the transcendent. The Goat shelter is designed slightly sunken below ground to help mitigate temperature extremes. Cold winter winds coming from the Northeast meet the lower portion of the roof, which directs the wind over the roof top and thereby keeping the goats safe from cold gusts. In the Summer, southwestern wind is scooped underneath the raised portion of the roof to provide cool air to the goats. The roof directs rain water to be collected in a sunken cystern for drinking.
